The Plaza was a DMC initiative launched in 2019 to reimagine what a music venue could be. Responding to local demand for more live music spaces, it used a ‘takeover’ model—transforming unexpected locations like empty shops, cafés, and outdoor spaces into temporary music venues. The project supported the local scene by showcasing artists, developing creative careers in event production, and encouraging a DIY approach to live music. It aimed to spark conversation around music venue provision in Dumfries & Galloway while celebrating and strengthening the region’s vibrant music community.
